Well that probably depends on where you live.
EWR put up a number of route options for consultation, all of which affected some residents of the Borough. The current Mayor and his team have lobbied for many years for the so-called northern route which follows the Midland Mainline route north from Bedford station and then turns east towards Clapham.
In practice this means the demolition of many homes in the Poets area of Bedford, the remodelling of the newly completed Bromham Road bridge, again, and the destruction of a lot of countryside, in villages in the northern part of the Borough. The Lib Dems prefer this route. They have made it all very political and are not listening to any other points of view.
As Conservatives we are all about supporting the development of good jobs, improving our town and creating growth and new opportunities for residents and business owners.
I was pleased to see that after years of dithering the current Mayor has at long last updated his rail strategy, but he fails to recognise the reality of what his plans will mean for too many of Bedford Borough’s residents. This is political decision making at its worst.
If you want to see a different approach to the vital decisions that affect the whole of Bedford Borough then vote for a change in leadership at the elections next May.
